Thanks for the kind words :).

The messed up Indian roads are not a blocker. The technology is not based on an algorithm. Its based on Machine Learning/AI. And it works by building its own rules by training on data. The training data is normally video and speed/steering angle data. I define the problem as;

Given an image predict the steering angle and acceleration.

So, all we need is data and a LOT OF IT! The more messier data, the better, the good thing is AI doesn’t consume alcohol or get distracted and will drive the way we teach it. :)

New technology has historically always created more jobs. From the Industrial Age to the Informational Age, technology has created more jobs than it has displaced.

Few decades back, there was a lot of outcry against computers being introduced into banks. The bankers of the day said, it would take their jobs and employed other fear mongering tactics. 30 years on, banking industry has more computers and even more employees and I can bet you none of those employees would forgo their computers or the ATMs. It made their lives better.

The yuuuuge unemployment problem is not related to technological innovation. Capitalism is an ugly beast and the day the tech is marketable no one will be able to stop it from taking away those old driving jobs. And I would be sad if it didn’t create the new jobs in India like it has been happening for most of the last 50+ years.

Its time we start exporting technology to the world!
