People can feel who made it
Lately, I have been staring at my own invoice tool next to three polished landing pages I will never ship, and I keep noticing which one strangers trust faster.
Memory is a shaky historian here, so help me correct the trail, because I started on rentacoder glue work where the site looked borrowed and the client still came back when the fix held through the Diwali rush.
I used to treat the logo and the colours as the job itself, and every round of polish left me with something which photographed well and felt hollow to use, because nobody had written down what I refuse to ship.
The test I use now lives in shipping and hiring, since caring about clarity means I cut a clever field which saves a support call next month, and caring about small shops means the bill prints in the words the trader speaks at the counter, and people feel that care without reading any values page.
I also stopped borrowing the look of companies ten years older than mine, because their site hides the mess their team can afford and my page should show the one problem I actually sit with, like the invoice that has to stay readable for a CA with tired eyes.
I let the look change as the understanding changes, because month one me knew the tool should stay light and month six me learned which button the regulars tap without looking, and the site caught up after the hands did.
I keep asking myself what my own work already believes when the header art comes off, and if you have a sentence your users would write about you without seeing your logo, mail it to me, I am @troysk704 and post a comment. We will fix it!
